Frequently asked questions
Pre-health opportunities and hours tracking for Georgia students.
What is LOCUS?
LOCUS is a free pre-health navigator for Georgia students. Answer ten quick questions and it ranks verified clinical, research, shadowing, and volunteer opportunities near you, then helps you log hours and reflections you can export for AMCAS.
Who can use LOCUS?
Any pre-health student at a Georgia school: UGA, Emory, Georgia Tech, Georgia State, Mercer, Kennesaw State, and more. Opportunities today are concentrated in Athens and Atlanta.
Is LOCUS affiliated with UGA or a pre-professional advising office?
No. LOCUS is an independent, student-built tool. Keep working with your school’s advisors; LOCUS is meant to sit alongside them, not replace them.
Is LOCUS free?
Free for the first 100 students, who join as founding members. We haven’t set pricing beyond that yet.
How are opportunities verified?
Every listing’s link and contact are checked before it goes live and re-checked on a schedule. Listings that close or go stale are removed, so the live count on the homepage moves as deadlines pass and windows open.
Does LOCUS use AI?
LOCUS uses a ranking engine that scores each opportunity against your year, interests, schedule, and location. It ranks and matches; it does not chat and it does not write your application for you.
How do I log hours?
Sign in, open Hours, tap Log a shift, and add the time, the verifier’s details, and a short takeaway. Your reflections build into a record you own.
Can I export my hours for AMCAS?
Yes. Your hours and activities export as a spreadsheet organized the way the AMCAS Work and Activities section asks for them.
Why can’t I find LOCUS on Google?
“Locus” is a common word, so a bare search returns dictionaries and other companies. Type joinlocus.org into your browser, or search “LOCUS pre-health Georgia”.
How do I list my organization’s opportunity?
Email hello@joinlocus.org with the role, location, hours, and how students apply. We verify it and add it.
